Guided Tour – Raulåna Historical Residence

Raulåna is one of Oppdal’s most unique cultural landmarks, located right next to Vang Church. It is the only historic building owned by Oppdalsmuseet that is not situated at the main museum grounds on Fjellkåsa.

The house was built in 1675 by parish priest Hans Bernhoft to host royal and official guests in a proper and dignified setting. And royalty came: from King Christian V in 1685 to King Charles XV in 1860, who stayed overnight on his way to his coronation in Trondheim.

Today, Raulåna is restored in cooperation with the Norwegian Directorate for Cultural Heritage. Each room reflects a specific time period in the building’s history, making a tour here a journey through centuries of architecture, design, and social customs.

Highlights of the tour:

  • The Chamber from the late 1600s, featuring rich baroque floral decorations

  • The King's Hall, restored as it appeared in the 1700s, entered through a grand Renaissance-style door

  • The Royal Chamber, with 1800s wall décor and period finishes

  • The Painted Room and the Gentleman’s Hall, styled as they were around 1900, with hand-made reproductions of original wallpapers

Raulåna offers a rare glimpse into Norwegian history, through rooms shaped by centuries of tradition and style.
