Oppdal Bygdealmenning

Oppdal Bygdealmenning – Nature Experiences and Outdoor Life in the Heart of Oppdal

Oppdal Bygdealmenning, spanning 1,161 km², is one of Norway’s largest common lands, covering vast mountain areas mostly above the tree line. The area offers rich opportunities for outdoor recreation, hunting, fishing, and enjoying unspoiled nature.

Fishing

With approximately 120 fishing lakes, the commons offer a wide variety of fishing experiences. Trout is the dominant species, while Arctic char is found in about 30 lakes. In Unndalsvatnet, grayling can also be caught. Fishing permits are available for day, week, or season, and can be purchased at several outlets in Oppdal or online at Inatur.

Hunting

Oppdal Bygdealmenning offers both small game and wild reindeer hunting. The application deadline for wild reindeer hunting is May 1 each year. For small game hunting, seasons and quotas vary, and it is recommended to check the latest updates on the commons’ website.

Cabin Rental

For those who want to spend more time in the area, Oppdal Bygdealmenning rents out cabins such as Orkelsjøhytta and Unndalshytta. These cabins are idyllically located by lakes and offer easy access to both hunting and fishing areas. More information and booking options are available on Inatur.
