Ski touring in Oppdal

Oppdal is a paradise for ski tour enthusiasts, with routes suitable for everyone from beginners to experienced mountaineers. From family-friendly peaks to challenging high-mountain adventures, Oppdal and Trollheimen offer spectacular nature, magical descents, and unique experiences.

Remember: safety always comes first. Check the avalanche forecast on Varsom.no before heading out, and bring essential equipment such as a transceiver, probe, and shovel.

Here are some of our selected routes by difficulty:

Easier tours:

• Stensesbruna (1210 m / 3970 ft) – an idyllic mountain tour close to the town center. A short and varied route, perfect for anyone seeking a relaxed ski touring experience. 5.5 km round trip, 505 m elevation gain.

• Storbekkhøa (1504 m / 4930 ft) – an easily accessible ski tour in Storlidalen with beautiful views of Trollheimen. Ideal for beginners. 8 km round trip, 600 m elevation gain.

• Blåøret (1605 m / 5265 ft) – a family-friendly high-mountain tour. Children can easily join! With kids, it’s recommended to take the lift to the top of Vangslia or Stølen, but for a bit of a challenge, you can start from Haugset. 7 km round trip, 400 m elevation gain from the top of the ski lift.

Moderate tours:

• Storhaugen (1170 m / 3835 ft) – a nice tour for a quick and safe mountain experience. Easy route with beautiful views over Storlidalen. 6 km round trip, 400 m elevation gain.

• Storhornet (1589 m / 5210 ft) – a true Oppdal classic and one of the most popular tours in the area. Steady ascent with fantastic summit views. 11 km round trip, 928 m elevation gain.

Challenging tours:

• Kråkvasstind (1700 m / 5575 ft) – a tour with a steady climb and panoramic views over Trollheimen. Perfect for experienced hikers seeking a challenge. 16 km round trip, 1100 m elevation gain.

• Okla (1580 m / 5180 ft) – a steep and demanding ski tour that requires avalanche knowledge and good experience. Spectacular views and exciting descents await. 12 km round trip, 1050 m elevation gain.
