Vassendsetra

Take a break from everyday life – experience the winter adventure at Vassendsetra
Are you tired of a hectic everyday life and in need of a break from your phone and other technology? Then Vassendsetra is the place for you this winter. This self-service log cabin is located at the end of Gjevillvatnet, in the beautiful Gjevilvassdalen valley. With its simple, yet charming standard, the cabin offers a unique opportunity to disconnect, enjoy the peace, and immerse yourself in the joys of winter.

Simple comfort – great nature experiences
Vassendsetra is part of the TT/DNT network of tourist cabins and is always open for adventurous guests. There is neither electricity nor much mobile signal here, giving you a rare chance to be truly present in the moment. A crackling fireplace, candles, and good company create the perfect setting for cozy evenings where board games and conversation replace screen time.

Vassendsetra consists of a main cabin and two smaller annexes, which quickly become warm and cozy. For those wanting to bring their dog along, there is also a separate dog annex.

Perfect for skiing and mountain enthusiasts
During the day, you can explore the area on skis. Whether you prefer leisurely ski trips along groomed trails or spectacular mountain hikes in the mighty Trollheimen mountains, there’s something for everyone. Several peaks are accessible from Vassendsetra. The shortest trips go to Hovmannshytten and Måssåhaugen. A little farther away, you’ll find Gjevilvasskamban, and for those looking for a longer hike, Okla/Snydda, Blåhøa, or Neådalssnota can be great alternatives. We recommend checking ut.no for detailed route plans.

How to get to Vassendsetra
The recommended way to get to Vassendsetra in winter is to ski in – either from Bårdsgarden or from Storlidalen. Storlidalen Ski Club sets up cross-country ski tracks from both locations, and the ski trip is about 6-7 km. The route from Bårdsgarden is a bit shorter but starts with a steeper incline. For those coming from Trondheim and planning to leave after work on Friday, it’s recommended to drive Friday evening and spend the night either at Bårdsgarden or in Storlidalen. This way, you can start your ski trip to the cabin early on Saturday morning and make the most of your weekend. If you want to go on a long trip on Saturday, we recommend planning to arrive at Vassendsetra on Friday afternoon before sunset.

Quiet evenings by the fireplace
When darkness falls, guests gather around the fireplace. Here, you can relax with a cup of hot drink, feel the warmth from the flames, and truly enjoy the winter calm. Board games, stories, and a good book make the evenings at Vassendsetra something truly special.

Always room in winter – your perfect weekend or holiday?
One of the best things about Vassendsetra is that there is always room in winter. Whether you’re planning a weekend trip, winter holiday, or Easter trip, this is the place for those seeking an authentic nature experience without disturbances.
