Rauøra – A hidden gem

High up in the mountains, you’ll find a chalk-white beach and crystal-clear mountain water surrounded by spectacular scenery. At Rauøra, you can truly experience that southern beach feeling in the high mountains. Feel the cold mountain water meet the warm sand, listen to the laughter along the shoreline and on the volleyball court, and catch the scent of sausages sizzling on a disposable grill. On those rare, warm summer days, Rauøra is at its very best – and the memories last forever.

Feel free to bring a tent or a hammock for the ultimate overnight experience and enjoy a peaceful summer morning in the mountains.

Have a great time – but remember the outdoor code!

Location: Rauøra is about a 30-minute drive from the town center. Drive west toward Sunndalsøra, then either follow the signs to Nerskogen and continue following the signs into Gjevilvassdalen, or take the turnoff toward Festa, continue toward Osen, and follow the road further into the valley.

Practical information: Gjevilvassveien is a toll road, and a fee is required to drive into the valley. The cost is NOK 100 per passage.

Mats have been laid out at Rauøra to make it easier for wheelchair users and others with disabilities to access the beach. It is also possible to bring a stroller here.

The area is equipped with toilets/outhouses and waste containers.

Camping with caravans or motorhomes is not permitted in any of the parking areas.
